Someone asked the Buddha, “ Since you are the Buddha endowed with compassion, wisdom, and psychic powers, why are there still people suffering in this world?”.
The Buddha said, “ Although I possess compassion, wisdom, and psychic powers, there are 4 things I cannot do“.
1. Firstly, karmic effects (cause and effect) are unchangeable
The karmic effects that arise from the karmic causes, one must bear himself and cannot ask another person to bear for him.
Karma comes from Desires. Karma means action and the results of action. Thinking is action. Any thought will bring about a reaction. You experience the present life as a result of the past coming into the present. Karma is the law of cause and effect.
Some karmas (or karmic situations) seem to be good and some are appearing to be negative. The theory on Karma, explains that “We reap the fruits of the seeds we grow. Good actions bring their own results and bad actions bring their own consequences. There is no accident or haphazard things in this world.”
2. Wisdom cannot be given by another
The process of awakening wisdom has to be done by the person himself. He has to go through the challenges himself and overcome them himself.
Wisdom can be equated with knowledge or intellect, although often wisdom is found to be distinct from that. We are surrounded by talented people who think about things while completely missing the point. Wise individuals attempt to acknowledge the limitations of their knowledge while grasping the deeper significance of what is understood.
Wisdom doesn’t just simply being able to digest information in a rational way; it means possessing and exhibiting knowledge and discernment. When we have the ability to recognize and use information, knowledge becomes wisdom. In reference to the proverb “knowledge talks, but wisdom listens,” knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.
Wise individuals are often fortunate in having sound judgments. Also, they possess the traits of authenticity and sincerity. Sincerity indicates an openness to speak the truth, while authenticity refers to the reality you live in.
In order to acquire knowledge, how can we accomplish it, and is it possible to increase our rate of learning? Wisdom is a personal pursuit that must be pursued on an individual basis. In order to uncover our potential and learn how to generate knowledge, we must first deal with the great tragedies and difficulties inherent inside life’s path.
In the face of trials, setbacks serve as poignant learning experiences that lead to greater awareness of the difficulties of life. A greater appreciation of life and a heightened sense of opportunity are the direct results of successfully coping with challenging situations. It is by having these experiences that we are able to overcome our own perspectives and see things as they really are.
3. True dharma cannot be spoken of
The truth of the universe cannot be spoken of using words. To understand this truth, one must learn, cultivate, realize and liberate himself.
To be a practicing Buddhist, there are two distinct aspects: It is the first part of this definition that simply says that you agree with the fundamental beliefs of the historical Buddha. It indicates that you engage in one or more actions, which is recognizable to Buddhist followers, on a regular and systematic basis.
One way of describing this may be to live a monastic lifestyle at a Buddhist monastery or practice an average of 20 minutes of meditation each day. While there are many different methods to practice Buddhism, it is a religion that welcomes a wide range of beliefs and thinking.
4. Someone who has no karmic affinity with Buddha can not be liberated
If one has no karmic affinity with me, he will not listen to my truthful words. Such a person will have a very strong ego and will not believe my teachings will enable him to be liberated and be free from suffering. “
In life, there are people that we feel drawn toward and people it seems we can’t help but dislike. Even though someone may be a nice and good person, somehow, when we see him or her, a feeling of strong dislike arises, unbidden. Just seeing them causes a change in our mood, but we don’t even know why we react so negatively to them. Without our control, our attitude becomes very bad—our tone sharp, our words unkind.
The making of karmic affinities has much to do with our attitude and behavior. The tiniest of comments or a moment’s harshness in tone could mean the forming of negative karmic affinities. Therefore, we need to be very mindful and aware in our daily life. On the contrary, people who have no karmic affinity with us or Buddhism can never be enlightened anyway.
